As if Facebook’s takeover war needed more ammunition, news came this week at the social media giant is buying, well, another social media giant.

Over the last year, Instagram has really been considered the fast riser when it comes to mobile apps, and especially now that it’s (finally) available to Android users in the new “Google Play” market, it’s value is higher than ever. Not sure it’s $1B high, but when you consider it’s THE app for mobile-to-social photo-sharing, it just might be worth the expense.

Facebook, of course, can afford it, and is bringing all nine (just nine!) employees of Instagram over to the Facebook side of things.

Some experts think this will lend legitimacy to other photo-sharing start-ups.
