Yeah, yeah. We know, flash mobs are SO 2010. But we couldn’t help posting this tech-inspired variation from fascinating startup, Urthecast, a company that aims to provide the first-ever HD streaming video of earth from…outerspace! In essence, Google Earth LIVE, if you can wrap your head around that and all the unbelievable things that go along with it. Like the site’s apt tagline says “Things are about to change”.

As a buzz-building teaser (and all around fun thing to do) Urthecast gathered up about 500 flashmobbers in NYC’s Hudson River Park for Social Media Day. Participants wore neon orange shirts and for 11 minutes, the group danced and formed familiar symbols used in the web age, such as the hashtag, heart, and the @ sign–all of which were captured in aerial.
